A Child-Centered School

"A child is a candle to be lit, not a vessel to be filled"

We at First Presbyterian Pre-School and Kindergarten believe that children "learn what they live". We strive to create a living environment where each child's curiosity is kindled by the challenge of new ideas, where his understanding of people and the world around him can be explored and expanded, where his own sense of self-esteem can grow and develop in harmony with others.

Our purpose is to provide the essential ingredients to foster the self-confidence, self-respect, and self-motivation children need at every stage of their lives. We try to expand a child's world by providing him with the opportunity to form relationships with both children and adults outside his family. We want to help each child develop a feeling of self-assurance so that he is free to be curious, to be creative, to experiment, and to learn.

We seek to balance instructive play and constructive learning in a rewarding  program that stresses spontaneity as much as group cooperation. Our aim is to awaken in each child the realization that learning is exciting and ongoing. Our program includes perceptual training, large and small motor development, problem solving and socialization. Through the areas of Music, Art, Drama, Science, Social Studies, Reading Readiness, Math Readiness and Physical Education - we strive to fulfill a child's interests while arming him with skills needed in future learning.
